INFORMATION DESIGN
Brief: The UK Government has noticed an increase in individuals representing themselves in court. This correlates with an increase in convictions that could have been avoided with proper legal support.
They identified a significant stage in the process happens upon arrest at the Police station. We were tasked to create a method of communication within the Police station that could communicate an individual's legal right to free legal advice, with particular attention to those with poor literacy skills and low levels of English.
Solution: A series of three posters, designed to engage detainees at different stages of arrest and encourage them to activate their right to free impartial legal advice. Each poster speaks in a non-threatening or confusing way to the situation they are in (waiting room, interview room, and in a cell). The main message remains consistent to bring a sense of stability and consistency is an often stressful and unfamiliar situation. The colour pallet is neutral and doesn't suggest any affiliation with the Police force, whilst still being trustworthy and genuine.
